Tossa de Mar is an attractive coastal village with a cozy character. Its narrow streets of the old centre offer nice shops and restaurants. You find the historic roots of the village dating back to the 12^th century, when a walled enclosure was built to protect the village against pirates, the last remaining medieval city wall on the coastline of Catalonia. Contrary to popular belief that Tossa has traditionally been a fishing town, until the arrival of tourism the local economy was mostly based on agricultural production, principally grape vine and cork. However, today you can enjoy the local gastronomy based principally on fresh fish and seafood. Tossa de Mar has two long sand beaches and offers all kinds of water sports activities such as kayaking, diving or boat excursions.
